:: It is the only hospital of Kanyakumari Medical Mission in urban area. It was started in the year 1880 by Dr. Smith Thompson, L.R.C.P.S.(Edin.). Dr. Y. Henry was appointed as the Medical Evangelist after his training in the Medical School at Neyyoor. He served with true Christian spirit and missionary zeal for many years and he was called the "Prince among humanitarians" and "Kankanda Deivam" (Personification of God) by the patients. He was succeeded by Dr. G.M. Samuel and Dr.S. Ambrose who worked for fourteen years in this hospital. During this time, the hospital was self supportive.

He was followed by Dr. W. Samuel, M.B.B.S., Dr. J.J. Sundaram ,L.C.P. and Dr. Vethakan Henry. Due to unavoidable circumstances, the hospital was closed for a few years. It was restarted as a Women and Child Care Hospital when Dr. N.D. Jeyasekharan was the Medical superintendant of Kanyakumari Medical Mission and Dr.(Mrs) Sheila Thomas, M.B.B.S.,D.G.O. was appointed as the Medical Officer in-Charge of the hospital. At that time, the hospital showed a steady progress. She was followed by Dr.(Mrs.) Annie Chandra Nesa Raj, M.B.B.S, who worked for 19 years from 23-05 1968 onwards. Dr. Irene Lysander and Dr. Sam Sahayadhas helped by their relentless service to improve this hospital till 1997.

Inspite of all these hurdles, the hospital has shown a considerable progress. To meet the urgent needs of the hospital, a Staff Quarters was constructed in the year 1992. This was followed by the construction of a Special Ward Ground Floor and First Floor consisting of twenty rooms during 1993 - 1994. We are thankful to Women's Fellowship, Nagercoil, for their valuable contribution towards the construction of the Special Ward. Many improvements were carried out and the old main building was renovated and concrete roads were laid. Still, the immediate needs of Residential Quarters for the staff nurses and the doctors and the construction of Labour Room and the Theatre was felt as an immediate need. To meet the spiritual needs of the patients, relatives and the staff, a Chapel at the Center of the Campus along with the extension of existing Out Patients Block is also proposed.

The co-operation of all staff of this hospital is highly appreciable. With the untiring efforts of Dr. Leethial Jeyaseela, who is a spirit filled true christian, this hospital is well run and most of the poor urban population utilise this hospital.
